How do I get there
& What should I expect?

Have you been in church your entire life?  Maybe you’ve never even been at all?  Either way, believe us – we know it’s not easy visiting a new church for the first time!  You’re not sure what’s going to happen, when you’re supposed to be where, and you’ve probably got a ton of questions. Well, we at First Baptist want to make sure you have the best experience possible – so we’ll try to answer a few potential questions beforehand!

Let’s start with how to actually find us, first.

FBC is located on the north side of Highland Avenue, about 1.5 miles
from I-49:

Finding us from I-49:

  • Take exit 103 from I-49/US-71N.  If you’re coming from the south, turn left.  If you’re coming from the north, turn right – both will place you on West Outer Road.
  • Head west on West Outer Road.
  • Follow West Outer Road, then continue onto East Highland.  The church will be on the right.

Finding us from in town:

  • Take Austin to Washington.  Turn north onto Washington.
  • Follow Washington to East Highland, turn right.
  • Continue on East Highland.  Church will be on the left.

When are your services?

We have two services every Sunday morning.  We have a “traditional” service at 9:15, and a “contemporary” service at 10:40.  They both last about an hour or so, and you might want to arrive a bit early – especially if you have children, so you’ll have plenty of time to check them in at our Kids Wing before the service begins!

What are your services like?

The worship style at our early service features our Praise Choir, along with a selection of the classic hymns that many of us grew up with and still cherish.  In our later service, worship is led by our praise team – the style is more modern, similar to what you’d hear on radio stations like K-LOVE. Most importantly, the message is identical in both services!

What should I wear?

Wear whatever you want!  If you want to wear a suit and tie, fine!  If you’re more comfortable in shorts and sandals, that’s just as good! We want you to come as you are – and chances are, no matter what you wear, you’ll find someone dressed just like you.

What happens when I arrive?

As you enter our building, you’ll see our friendly greeters waiting for you. They’re willing and able to point you where you need to be, or you can just follow the signs along the way. They’ll also hand you a program – we call it the “Mainspring”.  It has information about everything that’s happening at First Baptist!

When you sit down, be sure and look at the back of the pew in front of you – there should be a little pocket holding several slips of paper.  We call those our Communication Cards, and you’ll want to be sure and take one!

While you’re waiting, feel free to enjoy the pre-service music, read about upcoming events on the screens, and complete as much information as you feel comfortable sharing on your Communication Card (we’ll collect them during the service).

What’s going to happen in the service?

First, you won’t be pointed at, made to stand up and introduce yourself, or made to feel singled out in any way.  We want you to have a meaningful, worry-free experience – and we know you can’t focus on the service when you’re worried someone’s about to ask you to make a speech!

Our services are about an hour long.  To start, you’ll get to enjoy music led by our talented musicians and vocalists.  We’ll have the words to each song on the screens, so you can sing as much as you feel comfortable.

After a welcome from one of our pastors and more music, we’ll launch into the teaching portion of the service.  Each message is about 20-30 minutes long, and they’ll take the timeless words of the Bible and apply them to your life in a way that’s both easy to understand and very practical.

If you don’t have a Bible, there will be one on the back of the pew in front of you.  You’re welcome to use it, or if you’re not comfortable navigating the Bible just yet, everything will be on the screens in front of you so you can read along.  And if you’d like to check out our teaching before you show up in person, you can do so here.

What about my children?

All children – from birth through fifth grade – are invited to join us in our Children’s Wing where our team of trained volunteers creates a fun, safe, and loving environment.

If your children are middle-school age or older, they’re more than welcome at the Green Room, our off-campus teen facility that’s just around the corner from FBC.  Just drop them off – Sunday mornings there feature worship, small group discussion, and teaching, and your kids will be bussed back to First Baptist in time for the second service.

Whatever their ages, your kids will want to come back every week!
